Subject: INFO: CA - Long Beach Safety Summit

The January 4 issue of _The Signal_ (the local Signal Hill giveway newspaper)
has a front page article about a Safety Summit to be held at the Long Beach
Convention Center on Saturday, January 20 from 8:00am to 4:00pm.  (Free,
including parking & lunch)

Its focus is Youth and Violence 

The summit will center on four common themes:  Education, health, personal
development and safety:

1.  General Session - Keynote speaker and panel discussion on "KIDS USING
GUNS." AG JANET RENO, SEN DIANNE FEINSTEIN and actor JAMES OLMOS have been
invited, but have not yet confirmed.  OPRAH WINFREY has been invited to
moderate the panel discussion. 

[Anyone know if Wayne or Tanya are available?  That would liven the
discussion up a bit] 

2.  Interactive Workshops - Round table discussions on youth leadership
training, conflict resolution, gang intervention/prevention, parenting, MEDIA
VIOLENCE, health, job & college prep.

3.  "What Makes Me Feel Safe" Contest

4.  Call to Action - All participants will be invited to take action on what
they have learned during the day and pledge to make a difference. 

Host Cities:
Long Beach, Signal Hill, Carson, Compton, Norwalk, Bell, Cerritos, Lakewood &
Bellflower.

(I'll keep everyone informed if I hear of any confirmations of the guest
list.  Still, it would be worthwhile to have educated pro-firearm
representation)
