The CPCA's plan would virtually disarm the general citizenry through a series of measures ranging from confiscation of many currently owned semi-automatics to registration of all remaining firearms and licensing of their owners. Their stated agenda is to engineer a "social environment wherein firearms ownership and possession is a rarity," BECAUSE THEY DON'T TRUST YOU -- THE LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS -- TO OWN A FIREARM FOR ANY REASON. Here's a sampling of the "first steps" to the CPCA's new "social environment": * Confiscation of all semi-automatic firearms covered under the Roberti-Roos Act of 1990, plus an unspecified number of other "non-sporting" firearms; * Mandatory registration of all firearms, including those currently owned; * Adopt arbitrary firearm design safety standards. Unless able to meet these standards, firearms manufactured prior to adoption of these standards would be grandfathered for ten years, then be subject to confiscation; * State licensing of anyone seeking to buy or own firearms or ammunition, including a costly mandatory state-sponsored training regimen; * Banning magazines with a capacity higher than six rounds; * Require all privately owned firearms to be stored unloaded in a locked box at all times * Require that all firearms found in violation of any of these provisions be permanently surrendered to law-enforcement or destroyed. If you think that sounds like Sarah Brady's and David Roberti's wish list, YOU'RE RIGHT! This anti-gun agenda could develop into the most serious assault ever launched on your right to keep and bear arms. In fact, it's designed as an outline for a legislative package that the CPCA would like to see enacted by the California State Legislature. You can call the California Police Chief's Association at (916) 923-2375 or (916) 923-1625 and request a copy of their position paper on gun control. You may also want to call your local Police Chief and find out how he or she voted on this proposal. Share that information with fellow gun owners and your City Councilperson. Urge your local representatives to reject the failed gun control schemes endorsed by the CPCA! __ Date: Mon, 13 Feb 95 01:26 EST From: Peter Nesbitt <0005111312@mcimail.com> To: ca-firearms , Firearms Alert Subject: CPCA: Gun Control Committee Members This is a list of the CPCA members who served on the Gun Control Committee of last year. Get those letters, faxes, and phone calls going! For those of you who are seeing this for the first time, the California Police Chiefs Association recently adopted Position Paper 94-1, which seeks to implement registration of all firearms, bans "assault weapons", limits on magazine capacity, license to purchase ammunition, license to purchase a firearm, mandatory storage, consumer product safety standards, mandatory destruction, and much more.
