The principle domain names for those services are: sen.ca.gov -- this service: California State Senate lcb.state.ca.us -- alternate name for this node used by some Legislative Counsel Bureau staff who receive services from Senate computers. leginfo.public.ca.gov -- operated by the Legislative Counsel Bureau as the primary source for legislative bill information assembly.ca.gov -- operated by the Assembly Computer Services providing mail-list services. Senators and Senate staff must volunteer to use the gate- way in order to receive electronic mail from the Internet. In addition, they must offer their address for public ac- cess before it will be listed in our white-pages service (FINGER and finger by mail). ----------------------------------------------------------- FINDING ADDRESSES OF SENATORS, ASSEMBLY PERSONS, or STAFF ----------------------------------------------------------- The best way to find out if someone has registered is to call them and ask them. Check your telephone directory for the number of the Legislative office where your ad- dressee may be located, or call one of the following numbers: Assembly: (916) 322-9900 Senate: (916) 322-9900 Legislative Counsel Bureau: (916) 445-4965 The people at these numbers don't know Internet addresses for people, but they can give you the phone number for Senators, Assembly persons, and staff. Deciding on the domain for the person you're looking for is pretty easy: If the person you're Then their domain For looking for is in the: would be: example: Senate SEN.CA.GOV Jan.JonesBurg@SEN.CA.GOV Legislative Council Bureau LCB.State.CA.US Larry.Llwellyn@LCB.State.CA.US Assembly ASSEMBLY.CA.GOV Arnie.Arnolds@ASSEMBLY.CA.GOV -------------------------------- USING "FINGER" To find addresses -------------------------------- If you know the last or first name of someone, try using that in a finger command. For example, to see if Linda Ronstadt has an email address on this server, finger linda@sen.ca.gov. Note that your finger client may have a different syntax than we show here; check with your system administrator to find out exactly how that works. If you don't know who your senator is, you can finger your zip code and we'll try to help you find him or her. To finger your zip code, use it as part of your finger command, such as finger 90210@sen.ca.gov. -------------------------------- USING E-MAIL To find addresses -------------------------------- This finger server will also respond to electronic mail requests sent to finger@sen.ca.gov. To use this server via electronic mail, include your "finger" argument as the subject of an email message. For example, to find out if Linda Ronstadt has a listed email address, send mail to: "finger@sen.ca.gov" with a subject of: "linda" (or "ronstadt"). You may also use the ZIPCode finder via electronic mail. Include the zipcode as the subject of an email message. For example: send mail to: "zipcode@sen.ca.gov" with a subject of: "90210" ----------------------------------------------------------- If you have questions about this service, send email to the hostmaster (hostmaster@sen.ca.gov). ----------------------------------------------------------- ref:/[directories]format.explanation FREEDOM.
