This is a transcript from a broadcast made on the "It's not about Guns,. . .It's about Freedom" radio show on KIEV 870 A.M. (Glendale, CA). Broadcasted each Tuesday night from 8:30 P.M. to 10:30 P.M. Typing errors are my own. ***********Beginning of Article******* Good evening, this is Gerald Upholt, Manager of Governmental Affairs for the California Rifle and Pistol Association with answers to some of the questions most frequently asked about state firearms laws. ******* This week's question is: Can a minor (under 18 years of age) legally possess a firearm and ammunition at the same time? A. Yes, but the following requirements apply. A minor may have a rifle or shotgun in his or her possession, but not a handgun unless he or she has the "prior written consent" of his or her parent or legal guardian or is accompanied by his or her parent or legal guardian. Furnishing any firearm to a minor without the appropriate permission of the minor's parent or legal guardian is illegal. A minor may not possess any live rifle, shotgun, or handgun ammunition without the written consent or accompaniment of his or her parent or legal guardian, except while going to or from an organized lawful recreational or competitive shooting activity or lawful hunting activity. *********** Please tune in next week for another topic of interest to California owners of firearms.
