To: firearms-alert@shell.portal.com Subject: CA: CRPA ALERT!! L.A. City Council wants to tax ffls Date: Fri, 18 Aug 1995 08:40:12 PDT From: John Walker Here is a copy of an alert that I received from the people at the CRPA. Please spread the word!! John W. *****************BEGINNING OF ALERT*********8 ALERT . . . ALERT . . . ALERT City of Los Angeles to attempt taxing guns and ammo!!! The Los Angeles City Council is considering a scheme to raise local revenues through the unfair taxation of firearms and ammunition buyers! CRPA has already put a stop to two separate proposals this year in the State Capitol that would have done the very same thing! With budget shortfalls at every level of government, state and local officials are looking everywhere to find new sources for revenues! Having lost at the State Legislature in their attempts to single out firearms and ammunition buyers for a special tax that discriminates against firearms ownership and possession, anti-gun forces are now focusing their attacks at the local level! Just as they were defeated at the state level, they cannot be allowed to succeed in their new assaults at the local level! Below is the announcement of the upcoming L.A. City Council meetings at which the tax on firearms and ammunition buyers will be considered. It is of critical importance that as many CRPA members as possible pack the City Council's chambers to object to this unfair, abusive, and highly discriminatory tax on honest individuals who buy and use firearms! _____________________________________________________________________ L.A. It is a sad truth in America that firearms owners cannot afford to let their guard down, not even for a minute! Plan to attend both, or at least one of the L.A. City Council meetings, if at all possible, so that a strong and united voice from lawful firearms owners will be heard!! ********************************************************************** ** They came for the 4th amendment, and I didn't mind being ** ** searched because I didn't do drugs. ** ** ** ** They came for the 1st amendment, and I didn't mind because ** ** I don't speak controversial things. ** ** ** ** They came for the 2nd amendment, and I didn't mind because ** ** I don't own a gun. ** ** ** ** Then they came for the rest, in the name of protecting us ** ** from ourselves.
