Who Need Special Attention by Gun Owners of America (August 10, 1994) -- President Clinton and the Democratic leadership in the House are pulling out all the stops to get the votes to pass the crime bill. They have postponed the vote for several days, trying to buy time in order to win votes in favor of the crime bill. The Associated Press reports they are now between 5 and 12 votes behind. The House was scheduled to vote today (8/10) on the crime bill, but it has been postponed yet again. Some Congressmen are claiming they have enough votes to pass the bill. And yet, sources on Capitol Hill have told GOA the opposite -- that currently, the House leadership still does not have the votes to pass the crime bill. Your phone calls are working. The Associated Press (8/9) reported that while some Representatives were being persuaded to support the crime bill, "others in favor of it were being pulled back by gun control opponents [and] persuaded to vote against it." Keep up the pressure on your Representatives (202-225-3121), and counter Clinton's efforts to buy-off legislators with pork. We need to counter their offensive with a few tricks of our own. For instance, several Representatives are running for statewide office, and therefore, should be getting calls from outside of their district. Many of these statewide candidates listed below could easily vote for the crime bill. Thus, we need everyone in their state to call them. (NOTE: All phone and fax numbers begin with either "202-225" or "202-226.") Everyone in the state should call these candidates running for statewide office: Legislator Phone Fax Legislator Phone Fax Kyl * - AZ 5-3361 5-1143 Wheat - MO 5-4535 5-5990 Coppersmith*-AZ 5-2635 5-2607 Inhofe - OK 5-2211 5-9187 Huffington-CA 5-3601 6-1015 McCurdy * - OK 5-6165 5-9746 Castle * - DE 5-4165 5-2291 Santorum - PA 5-2135 5-7747 Slattery - KS 5-6601 5-1445 Ridge - PA 5-5406 5-1081 Bentley - MD 5-3061 5-4251 Machtley - RI 5-4911 5-4417 Andrews - ME 5-6116 5-9065 Ravenel - SC 5-3176 5-4340 Snowe - ME 5-6306 5-8297 Sundquist - TN 5-2811 5-2814 Carr - MI 5-4872 5-1260 Cooper - TN 5-6831 5-4520 Grams **- MN 5-2271 5-9802 Thomas - WY 5-2311 5-0726 * -- Indicates legislators whom GOA has confirmed are ready to support -- or are leaning in support of -- the crime bill **-- Has indicated he opposes the bill The following legislators are undecided or have said they are leaning in support the crime bill, and thus, need to feel some heat: Legislator Phone Fax Legislator Phone Fax Harman * - CA 5-8220 6-0684 Swett * - NH 5-5206 5-0046 Johnson *- CT 5-4476 4-4488 Andrews *- NJ 5-6501 5-6583 Lipinski *-IL 5-5701 5-1012 Mann * - OH 5-2261 5-4732 Porter * - IL 5-4835 5-0157 Greenwood **-PA 5-4276 5-9511 Minge - MN 5-2331 6-0836 Weldon **- PA 5-2011 5-8137 Ramstad * - MN 5-2871 5-6351 Green *** - TX 5-1688 5-9903 Talent - MO 5-2561 5-2563 Inslee * - WA 5-5816 6-1137 * - Asking them to oppose the crime bill because of the tremen- dous pork in the bill could be especially effective with them **- These legislators are coming under intense pressure to support the crime bill ***-Press reports on Monday, August 8, indicated Green is now supporting the crime bill Capitol Hill sources have told GOA that the following Republican legislators from Maryland, New Jersey and New York need extra pressure put on them to oppose the crime bill: Legislator Phone Fax Legislator Phone Fax Gilchrest - MD 5-5311 5-0254 Houghton - NY 5-3161 5-5574 Morella - MD 5-5341 5-1389 Lazio - NY 5-3335 5-4669 Franks - NJ 5-5361 5-9460 Levy - NY 5-5516 5-4672 Saxton - NJ 5-4765 5-0778 Molinari - NY 5-3371 6-1272 Boehlert - NY 5-3665 5-1891 Quinn - NY 5-3306 5-0347 (NOTE: All phone and fax numbers begin with either "202-225" or "202-226.")
