To: firearms-alert@shell.portal.com Date: Thu, 27 Oct 1994 22:01:38 GMT TOP TEN RACES TO WATCH THIS NOVEMBER -- These guys really need your help! by Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund (October 24, 1994) -- With the elections right around the corner, there are several candidates who are in close races and could use your help. Those who are running against incumbents probably need your help the most. Incumbents usually have the war chest needed to conduct last-minute media blitzes against their pro-gun challengers. Of course, you probably can't help all ten challengers. But pick one or two -- either the one's who are closest to you, or the one's that seem most important to you -- and consider helping them out financially. All the candidates listed below are either challengers or are running against opponents in open seats. As for GOA-PVF's top three races: 1. STEVE STOCKMAN (TX-9). Stockman is running against the number one man who betrayed us in August -- Rep. Jack Brooks. Brooks turned on gun owners and lobbied hard for passage of the crime bill, which contained the ban on more than 180 firearms and on magazines that hold over 10 rounds. His opponent, Steve Stockman, is 100% pro-gun. He understand the right to keep and bear arms as a constitutional issue, rather than a sporting one. He will be an activist like Rep. Roscoe Bartlett in Congress. Send your contributions to Friends of Steve Stockman, PO Box 57135, Webster, TX 77598. 2. RANDY TATE (WA-9). Tate is running against Rep. Mike Kreidler -- a puppet who will dance to any anti-gun tune played by Charles Schumer or Sarah Brady. Kriedler is already organizing support for the so-called Brady II bill that would make you get a license from the government before you could own a handgun. He is running ads saying that he will vote for more gun control. He blames firearms for the cost of health care. Sarah Brady and Co. have already dumped $4,000 into the Kriedler campaign. By contrast, Tate is a solid A rated challenger who will fight to protect our rights in Congress. Send contributions to Randy Tate for Congress, 33743 Ninth Ave., S., Federal Way, WA 98003. 3. HON. ROD GRAMS (MN). The Senate race between Rod Grams and Ann Wynia is one of the clearest choices we have this year. Both candidates have track records. There is no doubt that Rod Grams opposes gun control and that Ann Wynia will help lead every fight to take away more of your rights. For his effort and leadership in the House, Grams earned the highest possible rating from Gun Owners of America -- an A+ rating. But Wynia has continuously voted against our rights during her time in the Minnesota legislature. Contributions: Grams for U.S. Senate, 2013 2nd Ave. B3, PO Box 1029, Anoka, MN 55303. As for the seven other important races, the good guys could also use your help. These guys are very pro-gun, and if elected, will help change the face of Congress: 4. TOM BERRY, 'A-' rating. Berry is running against Rep. Henry Hyde ('F-' rating). Hyde cast the deciding vote to let the assault weapons ban out of the conference committee, and is now the latest argument for term limits. The voters of Hyde's Chicago district could impose a term limit on this 10-termer. When Henry Hyde goes, many moderate Republicans will follow. Citizens for Tom Berry for Congress, 100 East Roosevelt, #35, Villa Park, IL 60181 5. RON FREEMAN, A rating (running for an open seat) Ron Freeman for Congress '94, 633 East 63rd St., Kansas City, MO 64110 6. DAVID FUNDERBURK, A rating (open seat) Funderburk for Congress, 121 East Cumberland St., #1124, Dunn, NC 28335 7. GEORGE LANDRITH, A rating George Landrith for Congress, PO Box 32, Charlottsville, VA 22902 8. STEVE LARGENT, 'A-' rating (open seat) Largent for Congress, 124 East 4th St., Tulsa, OK 74103 9. JOE SCARBOROUGH, A rating (open seat) Scarborough for Congress, 3695 Wimbledon Dr., Pensacola, FL 32504 10. ZACH WAMP, A rating (open seat against C rated candidate) Committee to Elect Zach Wamp, PO Box 4331, Chattanooga, TN 37405 This alert was posted by Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund, 8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151, (703)321-8585.
