[reprinted without permission from page 5 of:] ISIL International Report June/July Issue 1994 Lithuania Baltic States React To Crime By Legalizing Gun Ownership Vilnius: Lithuanians now have a right to pack a pistol as a means of self-defense against rising acts of burglary, armed robbery and rape (many linked to organized crime) in the Baltics. With the new gun law that went into effect in April, Lithuania has joined Estonia as the only former Soviet republics where citizens may legally carry firearms for personal protection. [end] __ Note: I've heard that the Czech Republic has legalized firearms carry in response to crime. If so it agrees with the Czechs generally very rational, civilized nature.... The International Society for Individual Liberty (ISIL) is an excellent libertarian outreach/education/communication organization worthy of your support. We have had visitors from Estonia on these lists on & off. Perhaps one of them would like to confirm the status of firearms carry laws there. P.P.S.
