It was amended to establish a wobbler violation for "carry" in a government building or within 1,000 feet of a recreational area. The bill was sent to "suspense" with no vote. It will be considered again when the state budget is finalized. SB X37 (Roberti) This bill would prohibit anyone in a "prohibited class" from possessing magazines, ammunition and other firearm related accessories. Roberti deleted the idea and definition of an "arsenal" from the bill. SENATE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE On Monday, May 23, 1994 the following bills will be heard: SB X46 (Roberti) This is a California version of Feinstein's federal assault weapon and magazine ban. SB 1275 (Hart) Would require a handgun purchaser to obtain a license from the Department of Justice. It would also require a collector to obtain an arsenal license. An arsenal is defined as more than 25 pistols or more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition. SB 1276 (Hart) Would require that a license be obtained from the Department of Justice for the sale of ammunition. SB 1277 (Hart) Would prohibit anyone but peace officers from purchasing more than one handgun per 30-day period. SB 1896 (Petris) Would prohibit anyone under 21 from possessing a handgun except under very specific circumstances. It would also require the purchase of a trigger lock when a handgun is purchased.
