The PROponent Peoples Rights Organization 5 E. Long St., Suite 412; Columbus, OH 43215; (614) 268-0122 Volume 6 October, 1994 Number 10 ________________________________________________________________ [headline] All is not lost! FINAL CRIME BILL IS MUCH MILDER ... >From a speech given at Harrow, October 29, 1941: "[N]ever give in, never give in, never, never, never, never, --in nothing great or small, large or petty-- never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." Winston Churchill The Crime Bill has passed the Senate and pro-gunners are down in the mouth. We are tired and burned-out and "defeated". Or are we? Did we really "lose" big-time? Lose, yes. Big-time, no. PRO has obtained a copy of the final Crime Bill as passed and we were surprised to find major changes not only from the original intentions of those pushing this legislation but also changes even between the House version and the final version. The final version is significantly milder. There is a reason for this and that reason is YOU! Your calls. Your letters. Your faxes. It did work and it did have an effect. Backers of this bill wanted these unconstitutional changes so bad that their teeth hurt. Proof of this is not only the way they bought every politician who could be bought, but also by the very fact they shoved this through in an election year, right before the election. PRO has never seen this before. Politicians always wait until after the election to push through unpopular measures. But they HAD to push the Crime Bill through. They know that after the election it is highly likely they will have fewer votes on their side than before. Make no mistake about it, these Congresscritters know that what they did will cost them big-time in November. And our job is to see to it that their biggest nightmare comes true. I hear even the staunch pro-gunners out there saying, that they are tired and burned-out after the Crime bill fight and they just can't bring themselves to get fired up about the election. This is the worst thing we can do. Do you think the other side is giving up? Hardly! The ink isn't even dry on their Crime Bill success and the media is already on a campaign to ban more and more guns and steal more and more rights. The drumbeat for the next round is already coming out of the propaganda machine. None of us can take a rest and say we did our part until this election is over and we have unseated a significant number of those who voted to take our rights. We need just a little bit more out of each and every gun owner. We need you to get into this election in the month remaining. We need you to spread the word about those who sold us out. We need you to support those candidates on our side, both with money and your volunteer work. And lastly we need you to VOTE and even more important to fill your car with friends and relatives and take them to VOTE also. We still can have payback time if we get out the vote while the memory of the Crime Bill treachery is still fresh in everyone's mind. As motivation to finish this job, every pro-gunner who didn't call Washington needs to understand that you are responsible for the passage of this Crime Bill abortion. And more importantly, every one of you who did call your senators and representatives needs to know that you DID NOT waste your time and money. Looking at the final product, PRO finds that features originally proposed, such as the exclusion of police from liability and habeas corpus and search warrant "reform" do not appear to be in there. (Although it's hard to be sure with a bill this big.) Even the number of firearms banned by name is much reduced from the original DiConcini list. More significantly, the bill was "compromised" still further from the house to the final version. For example, the "collection of [magazine] parts" definition of the House bill is not in the final law. Thus, [though, we don't recommend it] you can still legally buy and keep unassembled magazine parts, "just in case." If you called Washington, the signs of YOUR pressure are everywhere in this bill. Thank you all! UNCLE SAM IS LISTENING... Some years ago the phone company put out a phone book with a snappy cover that showed all sorts of people on the phone. One of them was Uncle Sam. I always though a good title for that cover was "Keep talking, Uncle Sam knows what you are saying." And now it seems Uncle Same is getting ready to really listen in on everybody's telephone calls. Now HR 4922 sponsored by Donald Edwards (D-CA) and it's Senate version, SB 2375 intend to make that dream a reality. The House bill is also co-sponsored by Henry J. Hyde (R-IL) giving it bi-partisan support. This measure was introduced at the request of the FBI during the Bush administration and they have been spending your money to illegally continue to lobby for it ever since. Because of this, it seems likely that the bill will sail through like NAFTA with support from both sides of the aisle. Another great "victory" for Clinton. Another great loss of Rights for you. To understand what the bill does, let me quote a letter that has been circulated by Voter's Telecommunications Watch (VTW) and The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) in opposition to the measure: "Imagine there's a giant socket on the side of the phone company's equipment that says "FOR FBI USE ONLY" in giant red letters. Imagine if the fine for not implementing that socket was $10,000 per day for the phone company. How many communications carriers do you think will make any noise about the privacy of their customers' communications?" The proposed budget for implementing this privacy invasion is estimated to be $500 million dollars for 1995-1998. Neat! They steal your privacy and make you pay the cost of them doing it! Note that the GAO report for 1992 indicated there were 919 legal wiretaps resulting in 607 convictions. This is obviously a minuscule portion of the crime problem. Of course the real problem here is illegal wiretaps. The FBI has had a long history of the illegal surveillance of "activists" and activist groups. Investigative reporting and Freedom of Information requests (despite FBI efforts to stonewall) have revealed a longstanding pattern of abuse of power. Think of the temptation of having a nice big connection right into the telephone system where all you need to do is reach up and flip a switch, rather than get a court order to listen to, say, PRO and its subversive, gun-owning membership. In his book Kahn on Codes, David Kahn outlines some of the activities of the National Security Agency (NSA) which supposedly monitors communications to investigate espionage and matters of state, but unlike the CIA, which is not chartered to work domestically, the NSA can and does. I understand that virtually all international traffic is monitored and a great deal of private U.S. conversations are monitored as well (often with super-computers that scan for key-words causing conversations that trip the flags to be recorded). It seems that because of the ability of the NSA to work domestically, they were often asked by other government agencies for "favors". This got so bad that the NSA was doing so much spying for other agencies that they couldn't get their own work done looking for espionage agents. They claim they therefore had to change their policy and no longer wiretap for other government agencies. But who knows for sure? As is usual for so many laws out of Washington today, the wiretap bill is vague and full of loopholes. It grants wiretap privileges before any standards are set. It just has the industry set up an appointed "standards committee" to work these things out. This bill essentially says that here's permission to listen-in on all Americans at the touch of a button, and as for safeguards of privacy ... well, we will work those out later. To oppose HR 4922 and SB 2375 call or write House Judiciary Chm. Rep. Jack Brooks (D-TX). But I'd say that after his sell-out on the Crime bill for a pork-barrel allocation of a mere $10 million dollars to his old alma mater, we can't expect much from him. BRING THE GUILTY BASTARD IN, AND LET'S GET THIS TRIAL STARTED ... Erosion of Rights seems to be occurring everywhere and the Right to a fair trial by a jury of your peers seems to be one of the latest victims in the O. J. Simpson case. The principal cheerleader of this Rights usurpation is, as usual, the media. A perfect example of this new principle of trial in the press can be seen in an article in the August, 1994 Today's Columbus Woman by Columbus lawyer Robert A. Bracco. To demonstrate the biased nature of this piece let's just excerpt only those sentences mentioning O. J. by name. You see, these are what will form the association of guilt or innocence in the public's mind long after the rest of the words have been forgotten. "Not since the assassination of John F. Kennedy has our nation been so polarized by a murder as in the O.J. Simpson case." [It's a case as big as the murder of a president.] "The Nation was sad to hear about the tragic and brutal murder... That sadness turned into shock when we when we heard that the police had charged O. J. with these murders and that he was a fugitive from justice." [He tells you how you should feel about the case and notes O. J. was fleeing from "justice."] "...a side of O. J. Simpson that the public never saw began to unfold with the release of the 911 calls made by Nicole Simpson the year before." [This hints that the media assertions that 911 tapes proved O. J. was a wife beater are true. Actually the tapes only showed he yelled at his wife.] "The focus of the media and the defense lawyers now becomes whether O. J. can beat this rap with his alibi, which appears to be quickly fading, or by some technical error on the part of the police." [He can't be found innocent by a jury, he can only "beat the rap" with an "alibi" or a technicality. Thus, he is obviously guilty as sin.] "O. J. will get his day in court and will have his rights protected by his high priced lawyers and he will get, as best as possible, a fair and public trial in this matter, and he may even beat this rap." [It's too bad we actually have to have a trial and allow the defendant to hire "high priced" attorneys to defend himself because that might allow O. J. to possibly be found innocent ("beat this rap") when we all know he is guilty!] Just in case you missed the point, the last two "O. J." sentences in the story makes it for you. "... O. J. is guilty ..." "... O. J. is found guilty ..." It's no wonder that the public regards all lawyers as being sharks and shysters. Where is even-handed discussion? Where is `innocent until proven guilty'? Is it little wonder then that Mr. Bracco thinks that The Constitution of the United States is a serious impediment to his view of "justice"? He writes, "The Supreme Court case of Mapp vs. Ohio in 1961 held that any evidence obtained by an illegal or unwarranted search and seizure by the police was in violation of the Constitution and inadmissible in State Court. The purpose of this rule was originally intended to be a deterrence to any police misconduct; it's chief accomplishment over the years has unfortunately been the release of many guilty defendants." "It is interesting to know that for 150 years until the Mapp decision ... evidence ... was allowed to be admitted against a criminal defendant even if it had been obtained by an improper search. A principle still followed in all other English speaking countries." Can you believe this garbage from this obvious New World Order attorney, Bracco? It's not word-twisting shysters who become judges that are letting criminals get off ... the problem is your Rights! Let's let the police start busting in all our homes at random and using what they find there (like your guns) to put this scum away like God intended. Hey! It's OK, because all civilized (that means English-speaking, my good man) countries do it! Phooey! Lawyer drivel like this makes it clear to us that there are probably only two likely possibilities: Either O. J. actually is guilty as sin, or else he has really honked off some people high up in the power structure of this country. This kind of virulent propaganda in the media tends to make us lean a lot toward the latter, but unlike Mr. Bracco, we will let a jury decide. ____________________________________________________________ Joke found on the internet: BATF: "Knock, knock" John Q: "Who's there?" BATF: "Blam! Blam! Blam! Blam! Blam!" ____________________________________________________________ ROCKET MOTOR CRIME PROBLEM ... We have all read in the papers about how dangerous it is "on the streets." Every day we read of yet another citizen being killed or injured "by" an oversized model rocket motor! What? You heard me. I said model rocket motor. In a joint communique of the Tripoli Rocketry Association, The National Association of Rocketry, and the High Power Rocket Manufacturers and Dealers Association of September 3, 1994, they stated: "In the past week, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) has informed a state agency, a local ATF agent, and a rocket dealer that sales of hobby rocket motors that consist of more than 62.5 grams [ed. 2.2 oz.] of propellant and/or over 80 newton-seconds of total impulse are subject to Federal explosives regulations effective immediately. This description includes all disposable, one-time loadable, and reloadable rocket motors which meet the above mentioned criteria." What can we say, but "welcome on board, guys!" What with all the demonizing of "guns" in the media, other hobbyists little realize that two thirds of the guns "on the street" were purchased for recreation, not self-defense. Two thirds of the people who own guns do so for hunting, target shooting, or collecting. In other words, just like model rocket builders, they buy them for fun. The interesting thing is that some time ago, some articles on the Internet about guns and the BATF got cross-posted to the model rocket group and they were complaining like mad. At the time some pro-gunners noted that they better wake up because their hobby was sure to be next. They pooh-poohed the suggestion, but now it's "We told you so" time. The high-handed attitude of the BATF in this matter will also be recognized by gun owners. The three associations were assured in June that there would be meetings to review these issues. But the meeting date moved from July to September and then they just issued rules pre-emptively. They never even bothered to inform the model rocket groups with which they were talking. Even better is that the BATF agent they normally talk with was suddenly "absent" for the next two weeks. Model rocket crime. Bayonet lug crime. Pistol grip crime. This is all scary stuff. Clearly Congress has NO justification for any of these laws. But they do point in an ominous direction. It is becoming more and more obvious that Congress intends to overthrow the lawful government of the United States. They intend to pass more and more unconstitutional laws stealing your Rights. Proof is that the only purpose of these hobby-banning laws and regulations could possibly have is to make illegal the weapons and devices they expect might be used by "the people" in resistance to their plans for a new socialist America. However, the good news for model rocket builders is that gun owners have been fighting this battle for a long time. We are experienced and battle-hardened. We invite all model rocket builders to contact your nearest pro-gun groups for advice and help. We can show you how to create political pressure and take the initiative before you start reading in the papers how these larger model rockets are "nothing but weapons of war" and how nobody "needs" to own such devices. Don't buy the media message that we are "gun nuts" because that only means that we are hobby enthusiasts ... just like you. ____________________________________________________________ "An untapped energy source: Our Founding Fathers spinning in their graves! Michael Conners, Ohio State University student ____________________________________________________________ VOLUNTEERS ... At the September Board meeting PRO trustees expressed much concern over the low turn-out of volunteers to help with individual campaigns for pro-rights candidates. At the same time trustees know that many PRO members are very sensitive about having their name given out and we did not want to violate that trust. To re-cap PRO policy for new members: PRO's membership list is strictly confidential. We never give it out. However, PRO also has a mailing list derived from public sources like gun shows and hunting licenses that we both use ourselves and share with other like-minded organizations. Naturally, some PRO member names are probably on that list, but there is no way to determine who is or is not a member. We also have a volunteer list made up of those persons who returned our postcard or have some how indicated that they wished to help with political campaigns. Because of our concern over the up-coming election the trustees voted to give our list of volunteers to a couple of campaigns in an effort to get a better turn-out. PRO simply does not have the manpower to call volunteers and ask them to help at this or that time. Campaigns are set up to do this. Of course not all volunteers on the list are PRO members, but nevertheless the Trustees decided that the rules for use of the list by any campaign would be that they could call these people but that they could not copy the list and the list must be returned to PRO after the election. We hope that everyone who filled out our volunteer postcard or checked a "I will help with campaigns" box or just plain told PRO that "I will help with lit drops" understands that this meant to us that you were willing to allow pro-gun candidates (selected by PRO) to call you. The election this year is one of the most important ever and every volunteer who agreed to spare some of their precious time to help is due the highest praise and recognition from all gun owners. PRO and the PRO trustees thank you in advance for your selfless service to the cause of all our Rights. SPECIAL EVIL INFLUENCE ... We like to think that one of the reasons PRO has gained respect not only with our members but also around the country, is because we are not afraid to tackle the tough issues. With truth as our sword and reason as our guide we dig in where the timid and politically correct fear to tread. That said, we now plunge into an issue that is sure to have every PC gun-grabber screaming "racist" but as you shall see the facts not only refute that charge but turn that finger around demonstrating that it is actually those PC people and their allies who are responsible for the policies and social "theories" at the root of moral and social decay in minority communities. We are all familiar with anti-gun liars and their statistics. They trot out charts showing a few murders in this or that small country and then with mock shock point to the thousands of yearly murders in the U.S. Of course, the proper way to compare large and small countries is not the actual number of murders (large countries will always have more anything than small countries because they have more people) but rather with the murder rate. This is to say, how many murders there were per 100,000 population. So if you force the anti-gun media to stop lying, they say, "OK" look at Great Britain that great bastion of gun and rights control: in 1990 they had a murder rate of 7.4 per 100,000 and a robbery rate of 62.6 per 100,000. In America, on the other hand, figures for 1992 showed a murder rate of 9.3 and a robbery rate of 263. Therefore, they say it is still obvious that Great Britain has less crime and gun control works. Not quite. Race is the missing factor. Jared Taylor writing in the May 16, 1994 issue of National Review points out that split out by race, the murder rate in the U.S. for whites was less than Great Britain at 5.1 while for blacks it was a whopping 43.4. Robbery figures showed a similar disparity with the U.S. at 126 for whites and 1,343 for blacks. In fact, the murder rate for white America comes in under the 5.6 average of Britain, France, Germany and Italy. Taylor concludes that "Gun-control advocates propose to disarm all Americans because of violent crimes committed by blacks," but these data suggest "that the United States has neither a unique 'culture of violence' nor inadequate gun laws." Rather he says it, "has a high rate of violent crime because it has a large number of violent black criminals." The same effect shows up in the bogus "study" of Seattle and Vancouver by anti-gun propaganda doctors Sloan, Kellerman et. al. in the 1988 New England Journal of Medicine. This simplistic and refuted study asserted that Vancouver had a lower murder rate than Seattle because of the strict gun control in Canada. (Never mind that the homicide rate went UP 25% after the institution of the 1977 Canadian law.) In actual fact the difference can be traced to the 12.1% black and Hispanic population of Seattle compared to 0.8% black and Hispanic for Vancouver. According to Dr. Suter in an article in the March, 1994 issue of the Journal of the Medical Association of Georgia, the murder rate for non-Hispanic caucasians in Seattle (6.2 / 100,000) was actually lower than for the same group in Vancouver (6.4 / 100,000). It was the astronomical rates for Seattle blacks (36.6) and Hispanics (26.9) that allowed the anti-gun study to conclude Canada was safer. So what is the answer. Do we return to the gun control for blacks-only policies of the old South? Do we adopt the gun control for foreigners-only Sullivan law of New York City? Dr. Suter asks, "Could guns have some special evil influence on blacks and Hispanics, but not others?" He answers his own question, "Hardly!" The only people I know negatively affected by the evil spirits residing in firearms are the anti-gun propagandists like Sarah Brady and NY Times Sunday magazine writer Philip Weiss who once he had a real gun in his hand he was immediately overcome with thoughts of sticking up a 7-11. Dr. Suter notes that "The roots of inner-city violence lie in the disruption of the family, the break-down of society, desperate and demoralized poverty, promotion of violence by the media, the profit of the drug trade, the pathology of substance abuse, disrespect for authority, and racism -- not in gun ownership." That is quite a list, but I suggest you take time to go speak with law-abiding blacks and they will strongly confirm each of those assertions. My own conversations indicate that many even go much further using a word that most whites are scared to use: conspiracy! This is why the sermons of minister Farrakhan strike such a resonant chord. There is much evidence of conspiracy and the big arrow is pointing right at the white socialist power structure that is so hot on taking all our guns. Look at the welfare structure where free money is offered on one hand but only at the cost of driving male family members out of the house. When "real" welfare reform is offered that would encourage keeping families together and help provide a path up out of poverty, it is always quickly and overwhelmingly defeated by a largely white and statist Congress. Look at the popular "gang-sta" rap music promoting violence and suggesting that women are all "bitches" and "hoes" (whores). Do you think for a minute that even the "soul" music business is run at the top by blacks? Well, hardly. Look up there and you find the same white power structure that runs most everything else in this country. It's the same power structure tied in so closely with the anti-gun agenda. It's a very clever plan, the destruction of the black community to create a lever by which all can be disarmed. You look at corporate America today and you find that some of the very same companies that give to gun buy-backs and promote the gun control agenda are closet racists. Sure they meet their "quota" of blacks but you are not supposed to notice that all Vice Presidents are white and all the black employees are janitors. It's time the black community woke up. They already know that black crime is rampant in their neighborhoods and they also know that the victims of that crime are largely blacks. What hasn't been figured out is that black "leaders" like Jesse Jackson, Otto Beatty and Charleta Tavares and others don't speak for them. In our opinion, these people have no stake in the black communities. They have hitched their futures to the white power structure wagon. Their personal success appears to depend upon more handouts, more drugs, more promotion of immoral behavior or in short, the destruction of the black community. If you want to know who has sold out, just check their views on gun control. As Detroit activist General Laney has said, "Gun control is race control." The figures not only on black crime, but also on illegitimate births, single parent black families, drug abuse and unemployment speak loudly that a new beginning MUST be found. I would like to suggest that the answer to this can be found in a most unlikely place. It is found in the principles upon which the white founders launched this country. The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. didn't propose some new socialist agenda, he only asked that this country "rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal." He had a dream, but you should never forget that it was "...a dream deeply rooted in the American dream." The Founding Fathers, Dr. King and the current members of PRO have all made the same discovery: America does not need to be made more "European" it rather needs to get back to the American values of equality, freedom, hard work, and equal rewards for equal work that give everyone a stake in this enterprise. We do not support the statist view of some being "more equal" than others where success is achieved by climbing up over the bodies of "second class" citizens. Even less so when the climbers are cynically pretending to be on the side of those being scaled. But before we all sink back into inaction let us never forget King's admonition that "Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed." This November we can all make our demands known. Not by voting for those who tempt us with still more "bread and circuses" but rather by voting for those who truly share our views. I am talking here about the true meaning of the American creed. ____________________________________________________________ [text box] "In the morning the soldiers began to take all the guns away from the Big Foots, who were camped in the flat below the little hill where the monument and burying ground are now. [ed. at Wounded Knee Creek] The people had stacked most of their guns and even their knives by the tepee where Big Foot was lying sick. "...Some had not given up their guns, and so the soldiers were searching all the tepees, throwing things around and poking into everything. There was a man called Yellow Bird, and he and another man were standing in front of the tepee where Big Foot was lying sick. ...An officer came to search them. He took the other man's gun, and then started to take Yellow bird's. But Yellow Bird would not let go. He wrestled with the officer and while they were wrestling, the gun went off and killed the officer. Wasichus [ed. white men] and some others have said that he meant to do this, but Dog Chief was standing right there, and he told me it was not so. As soon as the gun went off, Dog Chief told me, an officer shot and killed Big Foot who was lying sick inside the tepee. "Then suddenly nobody knew what was happening, except that the soldiers were all shooting and the wagon-guns [ed. cannon] began going off right in among the people. "Many were shot down right there. The women and children ran into the gulch and up west dropping all the time, for the soldiers shot them as they ran. ...The warriors rushed to where they had piled their guns and knives. They fought soldiers with only their hands until they got their guns. "It was a good winter day when all of this happened. The sun was shining. But after the soldiers marched away from their dirty work, a heavy snow began to fall. ...The snow drifted deep in the crooked gulch, and it was one long grave of butchered women and children and babies, who had never done any harm and were only trying to run away. "...And I can see that something else died there in the bloody mud and was buried in the blizzard. A people's dream died there. ...for the nation's hoop is broken and scattered. There is no center any longer, and the sacred tree is dead." Last month we reported on rumors of strange troop exercises in or near Peebles, Ohio. The E PLURIBUS UNUM newsletter, has received further reports that expand, correct and clarify the original. However, real facts, are still scarce. They noted, "The original report said the GE facility is located in Peebles, Ohio...not true. The GE facility is Southeast of Peebles and is larger in area that the entire town of Peebles." They also noted that the fence does not encircle the plant but nevertheless the plant has high security. Aircraft sectional maps show a restricted flight zone of not less than 2,500 feet above the plant and hunters who have wandered onto the unfenced grounds have been quickly met and escorted off the facility which is more or less typical of plants with high security. Helicopter activity was confirmed. They report, "Everyone who was willing to talk, verified the helicopter activity. Residents also said that similar activity was occurring simultaneously in the nearby towns of New Union and Manchester." PRO has also verified helicopter activity but has NO reports of any troops seen. The original report stated that half the "troops" did not speak English. There has been NO confirmation of this. UNAM reports, "Our team was told the following : Troops were wearing zebra striped, camouflage with FEMA insignias on their shoulders. One resident said he saw black suited agents with visible FBI badges in a small restaurant in town." Now that's scary; FEMA "troops" in camo armed with something more formidable than a ball point pen and pad of flood relief forms. I'd say that one more private army run by a government agency is the last thing freedom needs in this country. But Peebles doesn't seem to be the only place gun-grabbing practice is underway. According to the August 3 issue of The Augusta Chronicle, an "anti-terrorist" exercise was held on Tybee Island Ga. "'A real invasion' was how Mallory Pearce, one local resident, described the exercise. 'I was scared and mad,' he said." Pearce said the helicopters descended above his house and then hovered. "The housetop was rattling, a tree branch fell in my yard and troops came rushing through my property with guns drawn," Pearce said. "They were hiding in bushes with weapons. I presumed they were loaded." "I went outside and told the people in charge to stop this, that it was tearing up my property. One of them handed me a claims sheet and said to fill it out if I had any damage but that they couldn't stop the exercise." Pearce said he told the Marines that what they were doing was "unconstitutional" and that they were on private property. He was told to "get out of a restricted area." "They asked me to move across the street," Pearce said. Some of these exercises appear to be close to home. PRO has learned from sources within the Ohio Highway patrol that these military maneuvers appear to have been occurring all over the state and not just in the Peebles area. Soldiers (often reportedly with foreign troops) will just walk through a small town carrying weapons with helicopters overhead. 911 goes crazy, but nothing ever seems to make it to the press. Even the highway patrol command is not sharing information with its men. The way they found out these events were relatively widespread was when the officers attended some conventions and began to shoot the breeze with officers from other parts of the state and found their stories were all the same. It all appears to be part of the joint exercises (both here and in communist countries) designed to hammer NATO and Warsaw Pact armies into a unified UN police force. This all sounds very similar to the joint FEMA-U.S. Military exercise called GRECIAN FIREBOLT 94, which according to the Spotlight newspaper, involved some 10,000 U.S. Military personnel, was held at Ft. Indiantown Gap, north of Harrisburg, PA, from June 11 to 23. The purpose was supposedly to determine how well regular troops would cooperate with the private FEMA army. (Scanner enthusiasts should note that FEMA satellite communications are said to be on 265-266 MHz NBFM.) Ft. Indiantown Gap also has a model city called "Johnson City" constructed there used for training in "urban warfare" and also has a large fenced in detention area that has been used to hold WWII German prisoners of war and Cubans from the Mariel boat lift. Sources say the area can hold 3,500 prisoners. Of course, to round up gun owners, you would need a REALLY BIG concentration camp and PRO keeps hearing of at least two such facilities. One is a large "mental health" camp in Alaska and the other is in North Dakota. The following is just the latest story found on the internet in regard to the ND camp. "A friend of mine in North Dakota was telling me today (9-8-94) that there have been appearing in the newspapers want ads for prison guards. Being an ex cop, he called to find out some of the details. The person described this new prison as being huge, covering several thousand acres of land, and for that reason they were looking for an unusual number of applicants. When he asked what the new prison was for and why it was so big, the person answered unabashedly, 'For all these crazy right wing Christian patriots who won't be giving up their guns. We expect them to be a really big problem.'" PRO, however, notes that the operative word here is "patriot" and we are sure that when push comes to shove, gun owners won't need to be crazy, right wing, or Christian to get in. ____________________________________________________________ "All those rifle and handgun chambers I'd blackened would need cleaning. This WILL be the headlines on November 9th, after the general election, if the complacent, apathetic, peaceful, law abiding gun owners continue to sit idly by allowing a small group to carry on the battle for all of us. This years election is currently shaping up to be one of the closest in recent history. No one in any race is guaranteed a victory, every vote is a critical vote this year. Your vote could be the one that keeps the gun grabbers out of office. Four years ago the Ohio Attorney General race was decided by so narrow a margin that the law required an immediate recount. One more pro-gun, pro-individual rights voter in each precinct in Franklin County is all that was needed to have kept the gun grabber from winning office. Explained another way, if every card carrying member of the Peoples' Rights Organization, Inc had stopped on their way to the polling place to remind a pro-gun neighbor to vote, or invited them to tag along since you were going to the polls anyway, the outcome could have been different. We alone could have made the difference. But we didn't. Those who sat by and let someone else worry about doing what they should have done for themselves, may have given us all the elected officials that they justly deserved. IT IS NOT TOO LATE! The November 8, 1994 General Election is just around the corner. P.R.O. members could take two or three hours that would be spent sitting in front of the television and volunteer that time to help the pro-gun candidate of his or her choice. You could do this directly for the candidate or through activities organized to benefit the candidates by Citizens Against Crime. This could help you to impact the election. P.R.O. members could each divert two hours of time that would have been spent on the shooting range and invest it in the future. Walk door to door distributing literature for the candidate of your choice. The steps one takes would be steps toward protecting our rights, and strengthening those rights that have been weakened. Those people who walk as a form of exercise could carry literature with them to pass out door to door and accomplish twice as much with there exercise time. Some people have schedules that do not allow forgiveness enough to spend the time you would like defending your rights. The next time you are too busy to go to the shooting range take the $20 you just didn't spend and send it to Citizens Against Crime. Twenty dollars from every P.R.O. member or supporter could help enable C.A.C. to take out an advertisement in the newspaper to let the public know who it endorses, or in helping a pro-gun candidate purchase enough literature or signs to get their message out and defeat the gun grabbers. Paid advertisements are probably the only way the endorsement of pro-gun candidates by Citizens Against Crime will find its way into the liberal media. War has been declared on the individual rights of every American! The next battle will be decided in the voting booths on Tuesday, November 8, 1994. This is a battle gun owners can not afford to lose! Citizens Against Crime is a political action committee, contributions to them are not tax deductible and law prohibits C.A.C. from accepting contributions from corporations. Patricia Johnson is Treasurer. The address for Citizens Against Crime is: CITIZENS AGAINST CRIME 2161 KATRINA LANE COLUMBUS OHIO 43211 (614) 268-0122 TURN 'EM IN ... No, not your guns, I'm talking about the names of PRO members. The Democrats in Congress stung by the mighty wave of grassroots opposition to their socialist-fascist plans including "Brady" and the "Crime Bill" are trying to push through still another piece of freedom-sucking legislation before they are booted out for good. This time it's a "lobbyist" registration scheme. Except the "lobbyists" they are after this time are all those grassroots citizens who had the gall to call Washington and oppose what the beltway bunch had in mind for America. This bill, S 349, which has already passed the House by a wide margin is designed to muzzle grassroots organizations like PRO. It is proposed that anyone who spends more than 10% of their time trying to influence federal legislation must register with the new lobby bureaucracy under the office of the President. So if you spend a couple of hours a day talking to other PRO members or perhaps weekends on legislative activities, they want you to register. Failure to register will bring a $200,000 fine. We are not talking legislative liaison or PACs but an effort to force PRO to turn in its membership list and the names of all its volunteers and supporters. The "Lobby Reform and Disclosure Act" must be opposed at once. (Notice how slamming the people up 'side the head is always called "reform") Slick Willie is talking about a lame duck session to get the last bit of criminal, unconstitutional, New World Order laws out of his paid-off pals even if they have already lost the election. Aren't there a few honest public servants left in Washington who will shut these criminals down? BAD CRIMINALS ... We have noticed that one of the major problems with law-abiding gun owners is that they seem to make such bad criminals. If a real criminal breaks into your house and you catch him, honest people, being honest, will assume that he is just like them and will confess to police. Wrong. He will lie his butt off. He just stopped in to ask directions and you attacked him. In fact your coffee table was unsafe and he bruised his leg and is going to sue for damages. He thinks that taking everything you own might be reasonable restitution. The Sept 30, Gun Week shows how being a "bad criminal" is used as a hammer to smash all gun owners. A Chicago Lawn, Il gun collector's house was reported as having a burglary in progress. When they arrived, police saw a "hand grenade" (paper weight) on the floor of a room and called the bomb and arson squads. Police then entered the house and discovered (gasp!) GUNS! James C. Welsch, was found to have what the newspapers called "an arsenal" consisting of 59 unregistered guns, although he did have an Illinois FOID card. "It must be worth thousands of dollars. There were a lot of antique guns in there. He had rifles from Japan, Russia, Germany, China, England, Hungary, all over", the tactical police officer told the press. Welsh also had (gasp!) 10,000 rounds of ammunition in an upstairs room. "He had bullets for every gun he had." another tactical officer told the press. What's worse police said Welsch was actually (gasp!) "manufacturing ammunition." "I have no idea why he had all this stuff, " Officer Kuber said, "but, if he thought there was going to be an invasion, he was ready." Do you see what the problem is here. Honest people see the policeman as their "friend" like you were taught in school. They expect the police to be on the side of law and order. But never forget that once you cross that line into law-breaking the police become your enemy. Never mind that these laws are unconstitutional, their bureaucrat mentality will immediately, in their mind, class an honest gun collector with murderers, robbers, and drug dealers. Since you will be classed as a criminal, police (as observed above) will immediately begin playing to the press (potential jurors) and twisting the story to favor the prosecution's case. They will be acting like they never heard of gun collecting even though many are probably gun collectors themselves. Sure, they know what a reloading bench is, but career advancement demands that they call it a "clandestine ammunition factory". PRO has been warning you about this for years. PRO's advice to law abiding gun owners is just to not break the law, if at all possible. Move your guns outside the jurisdiction that requires registration. I did. This not only saves you a lot of money but also keeps you out of jail and keeps a weapon out of gun-grabber hands. (Mr. Welsch's fine will be $6000 plus legal fees and probably will be forced to watch his collection being destroyed to exorcise the evil spirits in the guns.) If you do choose to take a stand for your rights and against unconstitutional laws, be aware of the possible consequences; not only to you but to all gun owners. And in that case, don't be a "bad criminal". Keep your "illicit" guns and ammunition out of sight. Take a lesson from those living in inner city neighborhoods. Never tell the police anything. Never give them permission to search. Never tell the truth when a lie will do. Like it or not, where minutes before you were a hard-working citizen with a legal hobby for relaxation, with a stroke of a pen politicians the next minute will make you a criminal on a par with the worst killers. And make friends in the police department now, before you are branded a lawbreaker. Police administrators and the jackal press understand how bogus laws hurt the law-abiding, but they don't give a damn about your life or family. They have an agenda to advance. And they know that most of the public won't understand these issues either: "You know, Edna, I heard he actually had hand grenades and enough guns and ammunition in his house to invade Haiti." If you choose to be a criminal, at least get "street smart." RENO AND BATF OKS STRAWMAN PURCHASES FOR MEDIA ... According to the Sept American Rifleman the news crew of KXAS-TV tried to make a straw man gun purchase at Murle Blasingame's gun shop. When a resident and a stranger wearing an NRA cap showed up and tried to buy a handgun, Murle suspected he was being set up for the classic "straw man" gun buy. This is where a state resident makes the firearm purchase for an ineligible out-of-state buyer. Such a sale is illegal. The Shop owner told the pair to return the next day and in a reverse sting on the TV crew wired his shop with hidden recording equipment and confronted the duo and called the sheriff's deputies and notified the ATF. The gun shop owner pressed charges but the ATF and the U. S. Attorney refused to prosecute. Apparently Reno and the ATF have concluded that breaking the law is OK for media people if they are showing "how easy it is to commit crimes." A government report has concluded that 75% of BATF arrests are for paperwork mistakes by honest gun owners. This seems to be just one more case like Sen. Rockefeller's Washington D.C. AR-15 and Jane Fonda's guns where gun laws are only for you, not for gun-grabbers or their minions. LETTERS... Dear Mr. Regan: When those of us who were planning on going to Washington, D.C. to be a part of the Second Amendment Rally to be held on August 14, 1994, a Sunday at the beginning of this week, one woman who had made up a group of five to go on the bus from Lorain sponsored by Jim Dowdell, told us about trying to get her grown son to go, too. He said, "Mom. I've watched rallies on television and the people who go always get arrested." After some encouragement on his mother's part, he finally conceded that if she and the others didn't get arrested this time he'd go next time. Never in Don's and my wildest imagination did we think that the mail on Saturday would bring an August issue of the PROponent in which it was stated that "The PRO Board voted to not have any `official' sponsorship of the Committee of 1776's rally in Washington. Trustees shared the NRA concern that pictures of pro-gun extremists in the national media would do more harm than good." Had you been up by the podium at the Washington rally when a NRA board member appeared to be in shock at the 10,000 peaceful, listening, staying to the end persons present with the breeze briskly moving the 1776 flags, the American flags, many state flags plus the flag which says "Don't Tread on ME"...I'm sure that we would have seen the same shock on your faces. The next sentence in the page 2, column 1 article can only have been placed in this paragraph to discourage PRO members from attending the August 14 rally because Linda Thompson's rally is totally separate from this rally. I feel that the last phrase "if you choose to go" in the first sentence, paragraph 5, column 2, page 2 had the same objective - to discourage members going. We do not feel that this was appropriate behavior for the PRO Board if the aims of the group are what you say they are. Are they? We feel that the Board plus members should have been in Washington with the rest of us. Since our copy of the PROponent did not arrive until the 20th of August and the rally was the 14th, we were unaware of your negative attitude. A city the size of Columbus, plus the surrounding territory, should have easily filled one or more buses. It didn't. So back to the first paragraph. There were no arrests. There was no rowdiness. WILL YOU BE BEHIND THE NEXT RALLY, BOTH WITH YOUR SPONSORSHIP AND WITH YOUR MONEY? We think you should have been there this time and we think you should be there next time. Sincerely yours, Don and Janice Carroll, members. Uniontown, Ohio [Editors: You should be aware of several factors surrounding this issue. The board was divided on the issue particularly because of the neutral position taken by the NRA and the fact that PRO as an educational organization cannot endorse candidates or support political activity involving them. You will note that PRO reports on candidates and political activity but support of these and endorsements always come from our PAC. The trustee's vote, however, was only on the issue PRO supplying money for the rally. PRO did try to educate and inform our members of the rally and indicated that the decision to go was personal. That was a legal issue, not an attempt to discourage attendance. However, this whole thing was an exercise in futility since PRO wasn't supplying funds for the national rally anyway and when the Trustee's vote was put to the membership (after the PROponent went to press) the members refused to vote on this motion and tabled it until after the rally, effectively killing the issue. And you should know that some PRO trustees were at the rally. The PRO trustees are a little embarrassed that they over-reacted to Linda Thompson's "armed march" schemes and realized too late how perfect the timing of the National rally was. Neal Knox deserves special praise for publicly supporting the rally in the face of NRA neutrality. His faith in law abiding gun owners was proved justified, and the gloom and doomers in PRO and the NRA ended up with egg on their faces. You are correct that Columbus should have generated a busload of people. We hope that those with sagging faith in honest gun owners have learned something, but still remember PRO's legal restrictions which dictate that our support for certain things requires a little fancy footwork. Nevertheless, I hope I speak for the wishes of all PRO members when I promise that at the next rally, both Citizens Against Crime (our PAC) and trustees and PRO members individually volunteering (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) will be 100% behind the effort.] Dear PRO: I like your PRO paper because it is a truthful statement about the grave problems facing our country and it's people concerning our Constitutional rights, particularly the Second Amendment. However, the last statement on the last page referring to Mr. Strickland, our southeastern Ohio representative. I believe Mr. Strickland is mostly a clone of Clintons. The only reason he voted against the gun bills (which are un-constitutional) he wants our votes. I don't believe he wanted to vote against the gun bills, but deep down consciousness he wanted to vote for them. This is my opinion. There are too many negatives which outweigh this positive. (Gun bills) I believe the statement should be retracted because Mr. Strickland is for big government, big spending and some of these are unconstitutional. I believe in the Constitution of these United States -not a union of socialists states. Respectfully, G.L. Garretson, Marietta, Ohio [Editor's Note: Elsewhere in this edition we have a list of how our representatives have voted on gun control issues since 1990. Mr. Strickland's record is solidly in our corner on the GUN ISSUE. His pro-gun vote was far stronger than several of our "traditional" friends. We don't presume to know what he really wanted to do "deep down." Very rarely do we attack or defend politicians on their other stances unless it has a direct bearing on the Second Amendment, Bill of Rights or the Constitution (in that order). We try not to waste our resources on current political issues like the abortion question, or the size of government or spending levels. Our interests are in preserving lawful government. We believe as you do in the United States of America, and in our cherished Bill of Rights, but if the people want to pay bureaucrats or build a welfare state, PRO's main goal is to make sure they do it legally and according to the constitution. If the sovereign states want to hand over their power to the federal government, our point is that there is a set procedure to do that. (and that ain't by Congress passing some law!)] Dear PRO: I am a relatively new member, I participated in the rally July 4th weekend. Appreciate your mailings. I work in medicine during the day, unable to help out during the daytime. If you need help with some clerical work, please let me know. Actually, I would love to instruct women in firearms. I have a 513T Rem. rifle I have fun with. However my pistol shooting is something to be desired and I would like to study with someone to upgrade my ability in that category. I wish I had time to lobby. Since I am also a professional musician I have to be careful I don't over-utilize my time. The rally July 4th weekend was very meaningful. I believe in this group exposure. Diana Hilliard, Ohio [Editor's Note: You type better than the editors, so look out. Also, PRO is always recruiting women to become firearms instructors. In the past, PRO has even covered the cost of the courses for women instructors to encourage them to volunteer. PRO feels that women instructing women is one of the best ways to dispel all the anti-gun myths that the media have used to indoctrinate so many non-shooting women. To learn more about how to become an instructor, call Ron Herman at 846-0597. That is also the number to call for our personal protection with pistol classes, home firearm safety class, or basic rifle, pistol and shotgun. And by the way, our movement could use a good rallying song for our cause...] Dear PRO: Thanks for printing Art Clary's letter. A very thought provoking piece. B.S. Coffman Newark, Ohio [Editor's Note: We had several favorable comments concerning Clary's article.] Dear PRO: We received the September PROponent today. I usually read it through in one sitting. I loved the letter from Art Clary. I have been aware of the impact of the 17th amendment for quite some time. But there are two issues about which I must disagree with Mr. Clary. First of all I am a 43 year old ex-liberal. I was a liberal by miseducation and indoctrination, reared by liberals who could provide no guidance to their children. My awakening came when I began researching education in anticipation of the birth of my first child. That was seven years ago. Since that time, I have cast off the liberal garments for the truth. My research has led me to extensive reading of military and legal history, common and constitutional law and education. During this time I have read the Federal and State Constitutions and begun to read the writings of the Founders of our country, from the colonial period through the War Between the States. My real education began seven years ago, when I began to understand to what extent I had been miseducated and indoctrinated in American socialism. I will submit that the real shift in power from the states to the federal government came with initiation of the War for Southern Subjugation. I was taught the victor's history of the Civil War, but my recent researches have shown me that I was Mislead and miseducated. The War Between the States was NOT about slavery. That was a smoke screen. It was about the eternal conflict between the rights of individuals and the power and control of centralized government. [editors: and stealing southern riches] A careful reading of the history of that time will show that Lincoln and his party engaged in a range of patently unconstitutional activities. Following the war, the Congress and Senate were both controlled by the radical Republican party, which passed bill after bill that were clearly unconstitutional. The legacy of that period of lawlessness is still with us. This is a very politically incorrect view, but it is historically accurate. The 17th Amendment was one more step toward the complete subjugation of the American people. One must remember that the states had to ratify that Amendment. I wonder what they could have been thinking, to give up their power so easily. Next, Mr. Clary is right that the government controlled schools do not teach American history. The government schools are not designed to teach truth; they indoctrinate the students in the state religion of Humanism. A plank in the platform of Humanism is socialism, and socialism is the basis of the school structure. Come on folks, the system is based on compulsory attendance. Defy the compulsory attendance law and you are looking at fines and jail time. Now, where else but in a socialist regime would a citizen be compelled by government force to send their child to an institution which he is compelled, by the same force, to support with confiscatory taxation? I submit that if American parents really cared about what their children were learning and the influence that the socialist government schools was having on their precious little ones, we would not have the education mess we've got. Education is in the tank because parents and tax payers have bought the lie that the schools educate. American parents are either ignorant by choice or they are selfish. None of them should complain when their kids come out of the system illiterate, pregnant or on drugs. If parents were doing their jobs rearing their children, we would not have this mess. It is NOT the job of the state or federal government to rear kids, to educate them, to inculcate values in them. We should not be surprised if the state when parents willingly abdicate their natural and normal responsibilities. And I will say something else that is very politically incorrect. We are in this fix because MEN have abdicated their responsibility in the family and in the home and in the work place and in the church and in the government. Women have been the fools to buy the lie of feminism, another socialist smoke screen. So we whine and complain that our kids have minds of mush and what do we do about it? Why does Mr. Clary have his 14 year old daughter in the government controlled school? Is not the mental and moral development of that child more important to him than his own convenience. OK, I'm talking like a mother, but I know fathers that put the training and instruction of their children at the top of their list of priorities, second to serving God. Mr. Clary should pull his daughter out of that school where she is learning that all cultures are equal and that the Aztecs were nice people, never mentioning that they sacrificed thousands upon thousands of men, women and children to their gods and ate their body parts, and that there are no differences between men and women except what sexist American society has dreamed up. Mr. Clary can never abdicate his responsibility for the rearing and instruction of his children. If his daughter is being taught lies, he is responsible. Wake up, folks. If you have kids, you are responsible for what they are learning in the schools. If we want to arrest the decline of American civilization, we wake up to our responsibilities to our young. Pull your kids out of the government schools. Teach them yourself or put them in private school. I get so irritated with parents who complain about the ignorance of American youth, and then subject their children, THEIR OWN CHILDREN, TO THE SYSTEM THAT INSTILLS THE IGNORANCE. The government power grab is not just about gun control, it is also about mind control (media propaganda), child and parent control (government controlled schools), money control (taxation), and property control (property seizures) and on and on. Sincerely, Rebecca Coleman-Roush Columbus, Ohio P.S. Can you recommend some preparedness books? Like for natural disasters? [Editor's Note: We can only say amen! But we wouldn't be quite so hard on Mr. Clary. It is very difficult to solve the education problem. Not everyone can afford to pay for the education of their children twice. But you are correct that this is a serious issue and much needs to be done... soon. One of the best sources of information on survival is the news group misc.survivalism on the INTERNET. On September 10th and 11th a group of PRO affiliated hunter education instructors put on our first Hunter Education Class of the season concurrent with the Ohio Game Fair at Camp Lazarus. Over 50 people attended including a large group of parents accompanying their youngsters. 38 of the 40 persons tested passed the test and were certified. Those failing were 8 year olds, which is not surprising, although a 9 year old young lady passed with flying colors. The Hunter Education class includes game laws, firearms handling, bow hunting, hunter ethics and wildlife management, as well as game care, survival and first aid. Certification is required for ALL first time hunters in Ohio, and a recent class is usually required for persons who wish to hunt out of state. My thanks to Richard Beckley, Richard Hale, and Dennis Walker all of whom volunteered to teach and gave up one of the best weather weekends so far this fall. The next class is going to be held concurrent with our gun show on October 8th and 9th. Call ODNR (1-800-WILDLIFE) to register, or the PRO Hotline (614-268-0122) for information. I'll be running additional classes up in Union County with the Richwood Gun and Game Club on October 10, 12, 15 and again on November 12, 13. Just in time for Deer gun season. DE-FOLEY-ATE WASHINGTON... A bumper sticker in Washington State reads, "De-foleyate Washington." After the primary election September 21, 1994, it may be working. Thomas Foley, Speaker of the U.S. House, garnered only 35% of the total vote. He was unopposed. The republicans running received 65% of the vote. George Nethercutt, Jr. received 30% and two unnamed republicans received the remaining 35%. Under Washington's primary system, voters can cross over party lines. Foley has been in office for 15 terms. In the last election he received 68,536 votes. This year he received 41,999. Nethercutt said that, "The feeling is that, after 30 years, it's time for a new generation of leaders." Amen. Another long-time anti-gunner lost his re-election bid in Oklahoma. Mike Synar(D), an eight term legislator that was tied closely to Clinton, lost to 71 year old Virgil Cooper. Cooper is a NRA member and a retired school principal. The defeat of Synar is considered one of the biggest upsets of the year. IT ALL MAKES SENSE ... Last weekend, I was handing out literature for Amy Salerno in a big parade in the Hilltop area. Afterward, when I was walking back, I looked down and there on the ground (where it belongs) was some Pryce literature. I took a closer look and there on the front were the words "U. S. Congress" and her name and right below that were words that were not printed, but rubber stamped onto the literature. They read, "Endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police" Now isn't that Special! I guess one rubber stamp (her's for the Crime Bill) deserves another (Dewey's support). Contrary to what you may have heard, politics does make sense if you look into things close enough. ____________________________________________________________ The PROponent is published by: Peoples Rights Organization; 5 E.
