BATF's 1992 study "Protecting America: The Effectiveness of the Federal Armed Career Criminal Statute" -- of career criminals: 6% obtained their firearms at flea markets or gun shows 7% obtained their firearms from retail firearms dealers 8% obtained their firearms from relatives 34% obtained their firearms through criminal acts & associates 37% obtained their firearms from off-the-street sales 8% unknown =========== Based on this, the Brady Law will have little effect on keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals (which we already knew). Expect far more criminals showing up at flea markets or obtaining firearms via sales between friends, relatives, associates, from off-the-street sales, and criminal acts (which we also already knew). -- "Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place" Frederic Bastiat "See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime."
