I picked this up at this morning's meeting of the King County (WA) Task
Force on Responsible Gun Ownership:

           DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY
BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND FIREARMS
             WASHINGTON, D.C. 20226

                  Nov 10, 1993

        TO: ALL STATIONS

      FROM: Assistant Director
             (Congressional and Media Affairs)

   SUBJECT: Assault Weapons

The Administration and ATF support the Feinstein
Assault weapons amendment to the Crime Bill.

The major thrust of the legislation is to ban specific
semi-automatic assault rifles and pistols as well as
revolving cylinder shotguns (such as the Striker 12)
and other firearms which possess certain
characteristics.

There is also a magazine capacity limitation of 10
rounds which "grandfathers" existing magazines and
exempts .22 rimfire ammunition.

An excerpt from the amendment is attached for your
information. Please note this is a discussion draft
and may not reflect final language. Press or
congressional inquiries which go beyond a request for
ATF's position on this legislation should be directed
to this office.

                   James O. Pasco, Jr.
