Everyone, 70 million legitimate gun owners included, is against gun violence. Unfortunately, bans on guns promoted by march sponsor groups such as Handgun Control Inc. would not reduce violence and may very well be unconstitutional. I wish that KFOG would not support groups that seek to eliminate the right to choose safe and effective self- defense (or at least air opposing viewpoints). There is evidence that severe prohibitions on legal firearms ownership in places like NYC and DC correlate with *increased* violent crime. Interviews of criminals in DC show them actively preying on store owners who they know may no longer effectively defend themseves. In contrast the murder rate in Florida has declined more than 30% since objectively-issued firearms carry permits were made available in 1987. I sincerely doubt that KFOG is open-minded enough to mention the July 1 grassroots Second Amendment Rally in Sarcamento, but perhaps you could mention any of the dozens of low-cost, volunteer-taught, NRA-certified firearms safety classes that take place weekly around the Bay Area. NRA's voluntary firearms safety training is likely a significant reason accidental firearms deaths have been declining steadily since 1900. (See http://www.jeff.com/rally/ for info on the rally.)
