According to Entertainment Tonight, HBO and Warner Music Group
have produced a series of anti-gun TV ads currently running on
MTV and BETV (Black Entertainment TV).

The piece on the Sunday, July 18th, 1994 Entertainment Tonight
started the male talking head stating that homicide is the
leading cause of death for African American males age 15 through
24. This was followed by a clip with Leonard Nimoy saying
"Handguns are everyone's problem," with video of a gun going off
many times along with pictures of corpses in a morgue.

The first interview was with Richard Plepler, identified as
Senior V.P., HBO. Next was an ad clip showing a "bullet's eye view
on it's way" to the next victim, a baby inside a house. Apparently,
rap stars Chuck D and Queen Latifa (sp?) and actor John LaGuizano (sp)
have done work for the ads. The next clip was of John being shot
by a deer with a Mini-14 while John says "People should kill guns.
Guns shouldn't kill people."

Next interview was with ad producer Shelby Stone, herself a well
known activist, stating how the ads should have gut level impact
since you only have 30 seconds instead of 90 minutes of a movie.
The ET announcer goes on to state that in addition to running as
public service announcements (psa's) on MTV and BETV, the producers
are showing the ads to "everyone, from legislators to community
groups -- anyone who will listen."

The final ad clip shows a black punk threatening a black teen,
a pistol being fired, and James Earl Jones saying "Stop. You're
only killing yourself," apparently a comment on black on black
violence.

Oh yes, when guns are shown or fired, no actor is prominent,
visually suggesting that the gun, not the hand using it, is the
problem.
